Determined, Pt. 1: WORK!!!

Part 1 of Our "Determined" Series: It's time to take an honest look at ourselves.  I know I can look at myself extra hard in this matter.  It's important that we work and it's important that we work "well".   In our efforts to succeed at life, we must have a sense of determination.  What better place to start than with ourselves?  We must ensure that we are first doing the "work" necessary to become successful.  What work is it that we should be doing?  Well, let's start with what we're doing now.  Solomon is stating in this scripture that the best time to work is NOW before we go to the grave. Maybe you aren't in your dream job.  It is possible that you aren't on a job at all.  What are you doing?  Do you take care of your home?  Do you help people?  Do it "well".  Work well at listening to people, being helpful, cleaning your home, taking care of yourself, reading your Bible, studying it and praying.  Start wo

Perfect Timing...

Stop waiting for the perfect time to do something.  You will not get it done.  I said it.  It won't happen.  If you truly want it to happen you should start now.  Write it down, start taking baby steps to making it happen.  Begin the transformation.  Start talking about it.  Start living it.  Begin to work at it.  What good is it to wait?  How much have you waited for already?  Why are you doing this to yourself?  Write your plan and dissect it into the smallest bits that you can begin doing now. Find the school, the course, the class that will teach you what you need to know.  Fill out the application.  Begin the daily routine.  Practice. Practice. Practice.  Try it out.  Whatever you do, stop waiting on "perfect" timing.  You really won't find that.  The time is now! Are You Being Judged?

It hurts when people judge us.  Passing judgment in and of itself is not bad, it is how the judging is done.  There are times in our lives-lots of times, in my life, when judgment is helpful.  If the judgment is fair, right and true, if the judgment is helpful to your life and will only result in you doing better in life-this is judgment that you and I need.  Judgment that is detrimental, condescending and discouraging should be unwanted and is, without a doubt, unnecessary. Judging should be according to Philippians 4:8: Philippians 4:8 KJV Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things. It's Monday!

It's the 1st Monday of October.  It's time for you to start again.  Whatever it is that you need to begin again in your life, now is the time.  It's the 2nd day of a brand new week.  It's another chance to do it again.  Pray for direction.  Pray for guidance.  Pray for strength to do what YOU need to do.  Pray for your family and friends, pray for co-workers and classmates.  Pray that the impending storms dissipate and cause no harm.  Expect the blessings that this new day will bring to you. Don't Ignore This Relationship!

Can you imagine a child without a relationship with their parents?  What would it be like if you never spoke to your mother or your father?   How would you feel about a best friend who never called or stopped by? Where would a marriage be if the husband and wife never communicated or if the communication was one-sided?  When does it become necessary to interact with someone who you love, i.e., a parent, a spouse, a child, a sibling? Relationships are important in our lives.  The greatest relationship that we should have is with our God Who created us.  He desires our time and our attention.  He always blesses us.  It's time that we bless Him with the gift of a relationship.   Psalm 139:13-14 King James Version     (13) For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. (14) I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

When Your Heart Is Heavy...

There are times in our lives when we are dealing with too much or are faced with too many obstacles or we are simply overwhelmed with life.  It is during these times when my heart is heavy.  Sometimes my heart is heavy for others and whatever it is that they may be going through.  I try my best to put on a happy face and rejoice in the day that God has given me, I try my best to wear a smile and recognize all of my blessings, I encourage you to do the same.  However, there are times when it feels as though it is taking everything in me to turn my frown upside-down. It is in these times that Matthew 12:34 comes to life for me, "out of the abundance of the heart does the mouth speak".  I encourage myself by reminding myself of other times when my heart was heavy and God brought me through the situation.  I remind myself of the battles God brought me out of before.  I remind myself of the prayers for others that I saw God answer right before my eyes.  I remind myself that I&#

Don't Be A Prisoner!

Don't allow depression to imprison you another day! I'm reminded of a movie called Shawshank Redemption.  In one of the scenes a man gets out of jail and so many years had passed that he wasn't used to moving vehicles and telephones ringing.  Today I think about someone locked up since the 1980's or the 1990's.  Imagine going to jail without ever touching or talking on a cell phone or owning a computer, without a thought of what a tablet is.  Imagine never, ever interacting with a touchscreen anything.  Forget about using a speaker phone or who on earth is Suri? Cars that operate without a key in the ignition.  GPS is absolutely frightening to imagine something electronic speaking to you in a vehicle.  Screens that show you how to park still baffle me, so imagine someone in this position.  Imagine when that person opens a computer or a phone and sees a person talking to them in real time and the person on the other end being able to see them looking confused.  

You Are So Important!

Luke 12:6-7   KJV You are so important to God.  He loves you more than you can understand.  Can you imagine giving someone food every single day of their lives?  The truth is you don't have that responsibility to anyone, not everyday of their entire life, anyway.  You may provide for most of a person's life, but not all of it. God gives us health and strength, wisdom and knowledge, food, clothing and shelter-for life.  He loves you.  He makes the way for you to have all of these things.  He blesses the people who provide for you.  He blesses the job that gives you the income to provide for yourself.  For many, He blesses the government that provides the subsidies. God loves you. He's given you the eyesight and knowledge to read and understand this.  Believe it or

Depression Will Never Win!

I spent the day looking at other sites and blogs that deal work depression. I though about my loved ones who battle depression and I thought about my battles with depression.  Depression does NOT win! There had to be a determination in our hearts to want to be happy again, to want to make it, to want to feel whole.  It's no better time than now to declare, "Depression...No More! 

How's Your Hearing?

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. God expects us to operate out of what we hear spiritually.  God tells us that we are above and not beneath, the head and not the tail. (Deut. 28:44)  The Word of God says that we are wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), and that everything (including you and me) is made beautiful in its time (Eccl. 3:11). Get Connected!

Your relationship with God the Father is more important than anything in this world. Look at how God blessed Abraham, Jacob and David. Look at how some people in your life today are living blessed. Think about how He's blessed you.  In the Bible we read how people were blessed but we don't talk about them being humans with faults. Abraham lied, Jacob tricked his father and David committed adultery and murder. Somehow, they all had something else in common. God walked, talked and visited with Abraham. Jacob wrestled with an angel. David had a repentant heart and he was a worshipper.  Through their faults and through our faults it is important to go to God and get it right. It is also very important to keep that relationship strong. Talk to God, think about Him, tell Him how grateful you are and his wonderful He is. Listen to Him. Sing to Him. What Are You Thinking About?

It's Monday, August 1, 2016.  What are you thinking about?  What's on your mind?  How are you feeling? The Word of God assures us that we can have peace when we keep our minds focused on God.  Think about how good He's been to you.  Think about a time that you prayed and He answered you.  Consider where you would be without the Lord, isn't it good to know that you have a God, Savior, Father and Friend Who loves you and care about you?  Just think about Him for a few minutes.  Say a prayer, sing a song, write to Him.  Wait for the peace that He will give to you. Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusteth in Thee.

6 Ways to Prepare for A Great Weekend!

We are very close to the weekend!  Are you ready? Did you make plans?  Well, today is your day.  Start making your plans now so that you are ready, without an excuse, to have a GREAT time! 1.  Take a few minutes and write down your plans for the weekend.  Just as you begin taking care of your housework and chores, take a minute to write your plans, it will help you to stick to them.  Take another few minutes and write down what you may need for next week.  Take an hour or a 1/2 hour each day and get a jump on the things that you have to do.  You will sleep a little better with this 1st step of accomplishment. Look in the Mirror!

Tip of the Day! Sometimes a person gets depressed to the point that they refuse to look in the mirror.  For whatever reason, they may have, the idea of looking in a mirror repulses them.  This is one of the many signs to pay attention to with ourselves and/or our loved ones, just like sadness that has lingered for more than 2 - 3 days or failure to bathe oneself. Did you know that we are the mirrored image of God?  The issue that we face is that the mirror is dirty on our side because of our sin, flesh and emotions.  We sometimes work to clean the mirror.  We exhaust ourselves in an attempt to make the image better.  We struggle to create an image that we can be pleased with.  What is really important is that we recognize that our image is dirty to start with and it's through our daily presentation of our lives and our obedience to God, that God can perform the necessary cleaning.  We can decide to allow God to clean us, but we really don't have the ability to do the cle

Don't Fail the Test!

Your problem IS the lesson! Take a step back and look at your problem again. 1. What went wrong? How and when did this problem begin?  Do you remember how you felt at that time? Were there any warnings?  What happened? 2. What is your part in all of it? What is your part in all of this?  What did you do or what didn't you do?  What did you tolerate?  What did you cooperate with? 3. What should you do differently next time? How else could you have handled this issue?  What should you have done that you can do better the next time, if there's a next time? How did you do this time that you should not have done? 4. From my heart to yours... We are in the middle of the month of July and I've already been on too many roller coaster rides.  Roller coasters are fun because we are prepared for the dips, twists and turns.  We get excited and we look forward to them.  In life, however, we like a steady stream that is conditioned to go in one direction with the same amount of light pressure all of the time.  We all know that we want the stream but most of the time we experience the roller coaster. I must admit that I wasn't prepared, with all of the signs and warnings, I simply wasn't ready because I didn't want to be ready.  Who wants troubles to come?  Well, while I avoided all of the signs, my life became one train wreck after another...all.month.long, (at least the all of the 1st half of this month). I kept thinking to myself, "how do I encourage other people to fight depression while I'm struggling not to fall into one myself?".  My problems and my thoughts

It's hard to talk or write today.  I woke up to bad news and went to sleep to bad news (both nationally and personally) 2 days in a row.  Pray for America.  Pray for all of us.  Pray for me. I know we'll get through it and I comfort myself with this confidence, I just feel so hurt right now.

7 Steps to a Successful Week

I pray that your weekend was wonderful. I also pray that this week will be a blessing to you. It can be hard jumping back into your everyday activities so take it easy. Here are 7 Steps to A Successful Week. 1. Pray to God about all that you need to do, big and small, and ask Him to help you to accomplish all that you need to do. 2. List what you need to accomplish this week. 3. Break down any large projects into small goals so that it doesn't overwhelm you. 4. Schedule some down time to relax. Relaxing will give your brain a chance to rejuvenate and allow creativity to flow. 5. Get your list completed! Celebrate your accomplishments. 6. Tell someone how this is working for you. Encourage someone. Hug someone. Call an old friend and catch up. 7. Thank God for all that you were able to do. Thank Him for getting you through the week and getting through each of these steps. Psalm 37:5

As Long As You're Breathing, You Have Another Chance!

Stop Avoiding God!

Tip of the Day! We avoid God when we feel pain, hurt, sadness or any emotion that we think that we can handle.  If you were able to handle these emotions, you would have by now.  You messed up, go to God.  You're feeling hurt, go to God.  Stop avoiding God!  He loves you and He's patiently waiting for you.
